I love that Paws feels as if touch is a gift.
She's really right. Touch, at its best, is one of the gifts we can give each other. And Tiger seconded the idea with her description of putting her head on her friend's shoulder, and having her friend gently push the hair out of her face. It's the same when my tomboyish client knocks fists with me as she leaves my office.
It's these moments that are so personal, so caring, so meaningful.
I like to think about the gifts we can give each other. And I'm always cognizant of the fact that it's those smallish-seeming things, the ones that don't necessarily cost any/much money, or take a long time to plan (though those can be fun too), that make up the quality of our lives.
The "goodnite hug" text from a best friend across the country, hearing a voicemail message from someone we care about right before we give a big speech or take a big test, a grandchild's touch on a surgery scar, a cup of coffee left by an office partner when she knows we'll really cherish it...
I have to say it, just because I'm majorly predictable... gifts we give each other would make a great little list... :)
How 'bout 2 lists... gifts we love to give others, and gifts we love to receive...
cool...

this made me grin ear to ear.
and i will be making my lists 4 sure!

It is funny...I saw a story on the news this morning and a gal was really struggling with MS and getting really depressed and someone advised her to give 29 gifts in 29 days. She could barely get out of bed, but she thought she would try. She started feeling better and said all of a sudden she realized that she had gone with out her cane for two days. She wrote a book about it and has continued to give gifts daily. She said they can be anything. Examples, were giving a flower...or a kleenex to a friend who was crying, etc.
I am realizing that touch helps me feel connected when I feel safe with the person. :)
