I just returned from a trip to Las Vegas. Even though they say, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” I am actually going to tell you what happened. I spoke at the Ben Franklin Institute-Summit for Clinical Excellence 1st Annual Eating Disorders Conference and met some amazing people. I experienced The Strip (where all of the big casinos are located) and even hiked at Red Rock. It was all larger than life!
Maybe it is true that some things that happen in Vegas really should stay in Vegas. I don’t know. What I do know is this: What happens with Ed should NOT stay with Ed.
I am recovered today, because I always did my best to tell someone when Ed (a.k.a. “eating disorder”) started talking to me. I told people what Ed said and what I did in response to what he said. By staying connected to others, I was able to get the support required to beat him. Ed can only win when we isolate with him and keep his secrets. So when Ed starts talking, do your best to reach out for help and start talking some yourself.
Don’t keep secrets with Ed (even if you are in Vegas)!
Best,
Jenni
