It has been a very busy couple of weeks including a family trip (with grand-kids--yippee!) to Colorado for a nephew's wedding and the hosting of a small dinner party last night. Entertaining is not my forté and so to alleviate the stress it can evoke, I chose a menu that allowed for advance prep. Thus I have spent large portions of the last three days in the kitchen. The evening was a success with rave reviews from all--whew!
An Associated Press article in yesterday's Napa Valley Register ("Teen girls to Teen Vogue: Stop altering photos") told how a group of young women (evidently affiliated with the protest group SPARK-a- Movement) were able to get first Seventeen Magazine and now Teen Vogue to agree to stop altering body shapes in their magazine photos.
On July 4th, our Nation celebrated its Day of Independence from oppressive rulers. Three days ago I received a link to another very important Declaration of Independence, this one from the oppression of dieting. I encourage you to read it. Like the author, I was surprised at "how much of the original text was appropriate for explaining why women everywhere should break their ties with dieting."
