I recently received an email that reminded me of the pure joy that successful completion of FBT can bring to parents and therapists. A mom wrote me to share her happiness that her child asked, of his own free will, for a bowl of ice cream with his siblings. This simple request was a reflection of months of effort, endurance, patience, and persistence. Anorexia would not have let this child consume any extra calorie a year ago, much less a “fun” food like dessert. Weight restored, and sanity restored, life can become normal again. And it’s just a scoop away….

How nice to share a sunny sign of recovery!

I had to share that I bought my dad an ice cream maker for his birthday (the man already owns every tool ever made by Craftsman, leaving me very few gift options), and I made some peanut butter ice cream to go with it. It's his favorite flavor, and we all got to enjoy some. I just need to decide what flavor I want to make next!

That's so exciting. I often have these moments myself when I actually forget about the half-chocolate bar in my purse, enjoy tennis for the fun of it, or don't know how many calories I consumed that day. What a gift recovery is!!!
